The Labour run Fire Authority has announced plans to cut fire cover in West Bridgford. Announced alongside plans to save £2m by removing fire engines in the City, their plan is to remove the night time cover at West Bridgford Fire Station. This is an operational decision which is admitted in a letter to Ruth Edwards MP
The money they will 'save' from closing West Bridgford Fire Station is to be spent upgrading Ashfield Fire Station to full time night cover from the current on call cover, giving no net saving. Why you ask? We can't be certain, but we know The Labour Administration is propped up by the Ashfield Independents on the Fire Authority. It means that the average response time in Rushcliffe will be over 10 minutes 30 seconds, the highest in Nottinghamshire. Every Conservative Councillor on the Authority voted against the consultation and the planned closure. Every Labour Councillor voted FOR.
The local Labour party should be putting their efforts into convincing their colleagues to change their mind, and not spend their time trying to deflect the blame. There are other options, but Labour is trying to shift the blame as usual. Please sign the consultation below:
