Wilford Fields Nature reserve a step closer

From County Councillor Gordon Wheeler, West Bridgford West Division

in October the Environment Committee of Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) unanimously agreed that there should be engagement with the Friends of Wilford Field (FRIENDS), with a view to writing a Management Plan for the site. The Friends would take on some management activities and responsibilities. NCC will support Friends and advise on forming a properly constituted group to take on further responsibilities. The Management Plan would need to be agreed for the site with proposals for funding further improvements, with a view to designation as a Local Nature Reserve in the longer term. This is wonderful news as Wilford Field is protected with a clear commitment from NCC to work with FRIENDS to improve the site and seek designation as a Local Nature Reserve. I have at all times liaised with community campaigner Daniel Atherton who has worked so hard in helping me to secure Wilford Field for community enjoyment. Daniel has contacted FRIENDS and will now take this forward . Sadly I cannot join FRIENDS or there would be a conflict of interest, because I submitted the petition. However I will support in anyway I can . If you would like to find out more about the group you can view their facebook page by searching 'Friends of Wilford Field'. I would like to say a huge thank you for your support and to everyone involved in FRIENDS
